"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" actress Rebecca Ferguson has been reported to join Ridley Scott's forthcoming sci-fi film "Prometheus 2."

The 31-year-old Swedish actress was reported to play a female lead role in Scott's film, as per Deadline. However, there had been no solid negotiations nor final offer made at this point.

According to Cinema Blend, the sequel to Ridley's "Prometheus" would highlight a female character, which is presumed to be a different character aside from Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, who survived the incidents of the first film together with the android David.

Aside from a potential role in Scott's "Prometheus 2," Ferguson is also set to appear in Shamim Sarif's romance thriller "Despite the Falling Snow," Stephen Frears' comedy drama "Florence Foster Jenkins," Tate Taylor's thriller "The Girl on the Train," and Tomas Alfredson's crime drama, which could set a conflict in the actress' production schedule for "Prometheus 2," as per Cinema Blend.

Set in a parallel universe as the 1979 classic sci-fi film "Alien," "Prometheus 2" stars Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender as David, and Noomi Rapace as Shaw, among others.

With Scott helming the film, "Green Lantern" writer Michael Green is on board to pen the script of the film. Since Scott's "Prometheus 2" is in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast members are yet to be revealed.

Scott's "Prometheus 2" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 30, 2017 while "The Martian" is showing in theaters.
