Tech giant Google recently released a new feature on its Google Photos for Android that allow users to hide pictures of a specific person. The new facial recognition feature is already available in the United States and will be rolled out to other regions including Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Australia, Middle East, Africa and some parts of Asia.
Google Photos for Android version 1.8 has a new feature that automatically organizes faces from the user's entire image library. This allows quick and easy access as well as management of the entire photo library. A thumbnail image represents a folder of photos. Users have the option to label each folder for easy recognition.
The most interesting side of the new facial recognition feature is the ability to hide a certain person's images from appearing under the People tab. This is essential for users who wants to hide specific photographs without deleting them.
The images will still remain in the user's online and mobile library. However, these images will not show up when scrolling through the People tab. Users that are banned from the Photos for Android app will not appear on the "Rediscover this day" tab as well.
According to PC Mag, the new version of Photos for Android now supports pinch to zoom feature on search results. Google also promised significant performance improvements as well as several bug fix.
Devices running on the Android platform will be the first to receive these updates. Google said that the update will be rolled out to iOS and the Web "very soon," according to Engadget.
