A previous report by Variety about a casting announcement, which they said that an inside source have told them McConaughey turned down the role. Though there weren't any specific details on what the roles will be, though there were suggestions that a replacement will be found in the coming weeks. "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2 will start production sometime beginning of next year to make it to its release in 2017.

There has been no official statement regarding Matthew McConaughey's rejection, though some suggests that it may be due to the various films and projects he has been set to work on 2016, giving no time for the "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2.

This report on McConaughey not getting the role remains a rumor or it also may stand as an act on intriguing the actor to get the role if he hasn't been formally asked to do it on the first hand. This news could go either way since facts point to the idea that McConaughey will not be showing up in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol 2. Though it would have been nice for him to add being in a comic book film to his roster of achievements in the industry.

Despite the suggestions of McConaughey turning down the role, there might be other actors who might take it. According to Cinema Blend, there have been another casting announcement, now with actor Pom Klementieff being casted for the unknown role. There will still be upcoming announcements, though it would be nice to see Pratt and McConaughey in a battle.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" Vol. 2 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
