Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" is set to be a trilogy.
In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studio executive Donna Langley said that director Trevorrow was working on an outline, along with "Jurassic Park" director Steven Spielberg. Langley added that they had a concept for the next two film sequels. For the executive, "Jurassic World" designed as a trilogy was a delightful surprise.
According to Cinema Blend, the upcoming sequels would give Universal Studios billions of dollars after their release few years from now. The publication said that Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" had shaken the globe with its success after its release on June. 12, making it one of the top grossing films of all time. In fact, it stands as the third highest grossing film of all time.
Trevorrow teased in previous reports that "Jurassic World 2" would not be about bigger and better dinosaurs just like what fans had seen in its predecessor. The "Jurassic World" director also pointed out that the sequel would serve as a foundation on a much broader story that chronicles the relationship between man and the dinosaurs.
"Jurassic World 2" is set to mirror the line cited by Dr. Alan Grant, who was played by Sam Neill in Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" in 1993. "Dinosaurs and man, separated by 65 million years of evolution have been thrown back into the mix together. How can we know what to expect?," Grant said in Spielberg's film.
With "Jurassic World 2" in its early stage of development, exact details on the plot, characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.
"Jurassic World 2" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on June 22, 2018.
