SINGAPORE -- A bit of trouble hit the main event of the spectacular fight card put together by Asia's largest MMA promotion.
While ONE Welterweight World Champion, Ben "Funky" Askren (14-0) stepped on the scales at 169.5 pounds, his opponent the challenger, Luis "Sapo" Santos (61-9-1) of Brazil failed to meet the welterweight limit and the title fight is now currently under re-negotiation.
No word yet on whether or not the bout will continue as planned.
The two fighters went to war in Manila earlier this year, with Santos getting the better of Askren for however long the fight lasted -- something that has never happened in Askren's stellar career. Askren is of course considered one of the best welterweights in the world.
An accidental eye poke cut their first encounter short unfortunately.
Fans the world over have been eagerly awaiting the much anticipated rematch. Askren himself is aching to get back in the cage with Santos to finally set the record straight.
Natalie Gonzales Hills and Angela Lee Make Weight for ONE Championship Showdown
Filipina mixed martial artist by way of Australia, Natalie "The Kilapino" Gonzales Hills (2-2) weighed in at 114 pounds while her opponent, Singapore's Angela "Unstoppable" Lee (2-0) clocked in at 113.5 pounds ahead of their women's strawweight matchup which takes place at ONE: Pride of Lions, November 13 in Singapore.
Both fighters looked absolutely fit and ready to lock horns at the center of the ONE Cage.
Hills is a worthy female strawweight contender with a solid record. Her two wins inside the cage have both come by submission, with her ground game proving to be an asset.
Aside from grappling, Hills also boasts very capable striking technique as she joins ONE Championship's growing female roster.
Angela Lee is originally from Singapore but has lived and trained mixed martial arts in Waipahu, Hawaii.
She is one of the most promising young fighters in ONE Championship and has impressed inside the ONE cage with her all-around striking and grappling skills.
Lee just wrapped up another impressive performance in Jakarta and is looking at a quick turnaround as she faces Hills.
Both Hills and Lee have experience in striking and grappling, which should make for a compelling matchup.
