Previous reports claim that Loki will join forces first with Thanos as he will likely hand over the Tesseract/Space Stone to him since Thor (Chris Hemsworth) brought it back to Asgard along with Loki after the events of the first Avenger's film. However, new details revealed that Loki will join the Avengers in order to gain revenge on Thanos for destroying Asgard after "Thor: Ragnarok" film.

Loki's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the center of several rumors and speculations as Hiddleston stated he has not been in contact with Marvel Studios for two years and his appearance in "Thor: Ragnarok" could be reduce into a glorified cameo role.

Aside from Loki's role in the film, Part 2 of "Avengers: Infinity War" will likely introduce a new team of Avengers to fight Thanos as it is rumored that several of the original members will die on part 1. Marvel president Kevin Feige told io9 that part 1 will likely see the last of the current Avenger members and several rumors indicate that these are Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Vision (Paul Bettany).

The new Avengers team will be led by Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and with the list of other Avenger members such as Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) etc., this team could very well take on the Mad Titan in part 2.

There is also a new villain appearing in the film in the form of Magus, Adam Warlock's evil alter-ego and its rumored to be the next "big bad" in Phase 4 of the MCU.

"Avengers: Infinity War" part 1 is slated to be release on May 4, 2018, while part 2 is scheduled on May 3, 2019.
