The decision to release "Half-Life 2" in the Android Platform came together with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Shield Tablet. Other Valve titles are also under development in order to be ported to Shield. These titles include the original "Half Life 2" and "Portal."

Valve is steadily crawling up the Android platform in order to gain wider demographics. Released originally in PC, "Half- Life 2" gradually found its way to the console audience after it was released in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Fans are hoping that this release would help reignite Nvidia Shield's dwindling sales performance. The Android platform currently has more than 400 million active users and Nvidia is hoping to tap this big market potential.

Nvidia created a new bundle exclusively for this release. Dubbed the "Green Box Bundle" it includes the Shield Tablet with LTE capability and the option to download "Half-Life 2," "Portal" and "Half-Life 2: Episode One" for free.

"Half-Life 2" was released in 2004. It is a first-person-shooter video game. Developed by Valve Corporation, it released its first expansion "Half-Life 2: Episode One" in 2006. The game follows the story of Gordon Freeman as he tries to reach City 17. Set in an alien-infested post-apocalyptic world, the game has enjoyed wide commercial and critical success since it saw its release on the market. It has won more than 50 Game of the Year awards from various award-giving bod, most notable of these awards was the one given by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.
