Popcorn Time, specifically the .io version, is back online following the fixes applied by its developer, who also hinted of a "full comeback." From YTS or YIFY, which was shut down by the MPAA last October, the restored Popcorn Time fork jumped to new content providers.

According to Torrent Freak, the repaired Popcorn Time application was announced via a Reddit post that also offered walkthroughs for users to make the old app work. "The general public can't use their old Popcorn Time client without manually applying a fix," the report said.

The developer credited for the Popcorn Time revival was identified only by the Torrent Freak report as Wally. Wally is also the operator of VPN.ht that appears to be source of the Movies API FIX needed to make the old client works. By simply installing the API and restarting the old app, the old Popcorn Time streaming service will be resumed.

"After the fix is applied Popcorn Time becomes fully operational again, filled with the latest movies as if nothing has happened," Torrent Freak reported.

As YTS or YIFY, which was the main source of the old Popcorn Time streaming service, remains out of action and likely will be offline permanently, the restored application now uses new sources. For movies, the service relies on TorrentsAPI while the TV shows are sourced from a custom API, the report added.

The restoration works done by Wally on Popcorn Time will require finishing touches but the developer dropped clues that users of the old app could soon access the same service without performing any adjustments.

"I am still considering a full comeback, I just do not want to release a half working version," the developer told Torrent Freak.

Wally is well aware that the MPAA will soon run after him but he brushed aside the possibility for now. The dev is hoping that the Hollywood movie alliance would realize that Popcorn Time represents a powerful concept and technology that it can replicate.

"The popularity of Popcorn Time should be an example for the MPAA to a build a future streaming platform that will be open to the entire world," the developer said.
