Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) may be seen more as an anti-superhero in the upcoming television series "Jessica Jones."
In her interview with Los Angeles Times, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said that for Jones, the superpowers were just a matter of fact. Rosenberg explained that what she loved about the character was she was so unapologetically who she was. The showrunner also said that Jones was not apologetic about her sexuality, her powers, her drinking, and about anything. Jones was who she was, according to Rosenberg.
Ritter linked the dark tone of "Jessica Jones" to a person's coping mechanisms with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In her interview with Los Angeles Times, Ritter said that the thing about PTSD was that it was not just a memory, but a feeling like one was back in that situation.
For Ritter, "Jessica Jones" would be about laying down those situations and one's reactions to those situations. The actress said it was something she had worked really hard on because one wanted to do it justice.
"Jessica Jones" stands as the second Marvel Television enterprise with a sole female lead, following ABC's "Agent Carter. Having 13 episodes, the series puts emphasis on a former superhero who became a detective, battling the evil outside her and inside her mind.
Meanwhile, "Jessica Jones" season 1 episode 1 is entitled "AKA Ladies Night." According to JoBlo, episode 1 would see Jones rebuild her personal life and career as a detective who scrutinizes cases in New York City, following a heartbreaking conclusion to her brief superhero stint.
Directed by S.J. Clarkson, the "Jessica Jones" season 1 pilot episode "AKA Ladies Night" airs on Nov. 20.
