Benedict Cumberbatch brilliantly portrays Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game" film shown again this Christmas day. The film tells the story of the British cryptanalyst, logician and mathematician and how he cracked the Nazi's Enigma code.
"The Imitation Game" is based on Andrew Hodges' Alan Turing: The Enigma. The Imitation Game's screenplay is written by Graham Moore.
Aside from his achievement in breaking the Enigma code, "The Imitation Game" also shows how Alan Turing was wronged for being a homosexual. "The Imitation Game" starts with Turing being arrested for being a homosexual even after his key contribution in winning the World War II. It also shows Turing's childhood, where he fell in love with a fellow boy.
The Nazi Enigma Code was considered unbreakable due to the daily switching of the codes. Turing went to Bletchley Park to try and break the German's Enigma code.
The British army set up a team with Turing to break the Enigma code, including Hugh Alexander (Matthew Goode), a national chess champion and John Cairncross (Allen Leech), a British intelligence officer.
Turing also hires Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), a female math wizard.
Some consider that the WWII could have been lost if it weren't for Turing, who saved years and millions of lives by breaking the Enigma code.
Before "The Imitation Game," Cumberbatch was known for his role as the famous Sherlock Holmes in the hit TV series. He also starred as the antagonist Khan in the recent "Star Trek: Into Darkness." Cumberbatch was also chosen to be Doctor Stephen Strange in Marvel's "Doctor Strange" in 2016.
Norwegian director Morten Tyldum helmed the creation of "The Imitation Game."
