Despite the decreasing appeal of phablet devices, Huawei is betting big on the market with the newest Mate 8 device. The Huawei Mate 8 was unveiled on Nov. 26 and sports a 6-inch display as well as several interesting specs.

The 6-inch display supports 1080p resolution and has a pixel density of 367 pixels per inch. The Mate 8 might not sport a display as crisp as that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, it is important to note that the new device from Huawei brings some serious hardware into the table.

At the heart of the Huawei Mate 8 is an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor. It boasts four 2.3GHz cortex A72 chips and four 1.8GHz A53 chips. Backing this massive computing power is a choice of either 4GB or 3GB of internal memory, according to Engadget.

Depending on storage space, the Huawei Mate 8 is available in two variants; 32GB or 64GB. For users who need extra storage space, the Mate 8 has a microsSD slot that supports expansion cards up to 128GB.

The Huawei Mate 8 also has a decent camera. It has a 16-megapixel rear facing camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. Both cameras are manufactured by Sony. The phablet also boasts a 4,000mAh battery pack which support quick charging.

The Huawei Mate 8 has a fingerprint scanner installed at its back. The sensor can be used to unlock the phone as well as verify its user's identity. According to CNet, the fingerprint scanner can be used to authorize mobile payments. Although this feature is only available in China.

In terms of software specs, the Huawei Mate 8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. On top of the standard Marshmallow interface, Huawei embedded its own Emotion 4.0 user interface.

The Huawei Mate 8 is expected to debut in the  United States at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in January.
