With the last gaming console from Sony - PS4 released in 2013 - there is no wonder that the need of PlayStation 5's existence is on the debating tables.

With the game developers hungry for more and more power, and the lack of hardware upgrade on PS4 consoles, Sony might launch its next big thing very soon. Going by the previous launch dates and history, analyzed parallel to rumors and leaks, PlayStation 5 is expected to be launched sometime around the last half of 2020.

PS5 is expected to be a cloud-based streaming console that packs much more power, which is required by today's and future game titles, and may be released along with Morpheus Virtual Reality as a peripheral to the main controller. With AMD stating that it's working on new chips that has 5x times performance than the present ones, one can assume that Sony developers and engineers are working on the PS5.

Would Sony consider going off the trend and releasing the console much earlier or by 2017? The odds are quite good to support this statement. With ever growing hardware needs demanded by new gaming titles, the need for the next console is quite inevitable. The game developers also find it quite challenging to develop games given the hardware and power limitations on the PS4 machines.

If Sony tends to launch PS5 pretty sooner, say by 2017, it would mean dead end of PS4 and the price cuts are inevitable. Moreover, experts also feel that Sony would hold PS5 until 2020 if there is no need of new console in terms of innovation and business.
