"Person of Interest" is reportedly about to get cancelled after season 5. Rumors of the cancellation circulated online months before CBS finally announced its renewal. Turns out, the series took a hit in the ratings game in the fourth season, which got producers wondering about its potential.
According to Master Herald, "Person of Interest" is following the footsteps of "Extant" and "Under the Dome." The outlet held that the CBS producers wanted to see if a fifth season will eventually yield profit before finally pulling the plug.
The show was also pushed to a later date, slated to premiere on summer 2016 unlike its usual fall debut. It was said that it was the network's strategy, in an attempt to even build up interest.
"With 'Person of Interest' showing during summer, it may actually benefit from lesser competition and perhaps revive its sagging ratings," the author explained.
According to Christian Today, the cast and crew of of "Person of Interest" are very much aware that season 5 may just be their last. They even went as far as saying that they are actually treating this as their finale.
Given that the show has been cut down from 22 episodes to 13, the producers felt that it was only a matter of time before the show comes to an end.
"For most television shows, a season cut in half is often a sign of getting cancelled, most likely due to low viewer ratings," it said.
They, however, admitted that they are still open with the probability of another network picking the series up.
