Rumors say that the Nintendo NX release date is happening in the second half of 2016 as mass production will commence March of next year. However, nothing about NX details have been confirmed by Nintendo so while waiting the Wii U makes for a compelling alternative as Christmas buy this 2015.

Here are the top reasons to take home the current Nintendo flagship console this holiday season:

Super Smash Bros. 4

The Wii U gives access to Nintendo's brawling game title Super Smash Bros. 4, which likely will roll out a DLC expansion this December, headlined by Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII. Grabbing the device, which has a Super Smash bundle, this Christmas will mean hours of smashing fun with family.

Iconic Mario

Playing Mario game titles is always a proven delight and with the Wii U, the Mario dosage will certainly hit the roof. The servings of the Nintendo icon, according to Metro, include Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D Word and Super Mario Maker, not to mention that Mario is ready to rumble as among the most notable playable characters in Super Smash Bros. 4.

Minecraft and Zelda

And if Mario will prove insufficient, new titles are on their way bannered by the Xbox hit Minecraft and the equally popular The Legend of Zelda. Minecraft, Metro said, will debut in Wii U on December 17.

Backward compatibility

Buyers upgrading from the original Wii gaming machine will be pleased to know that the Wii U is backward compatible with software and hardware designed for its predecessors. This means that the unit is immediately enjoyable with first-generation game titles and controllers.

1080p and 60fps

The terms above translate to more than decent graphic rendering for the Wii U, which Metro said is true to majority of game titles.

Cheaper than PS4 and Xbox One

In the same report, Metro claims that Wii U buyers are looking on savings of more than $100 for the stand-alone console should they pick the device over the more popular Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One.
