In Episode 8, fans saw the death of one of the significant characters-Lily Salvatore. Episode 9 of "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 7 is expected to see the impact of her death.
According to the synopsis for the midseason final "Cold as Ice" (via Spoiler TV), Stefan and Damon are on a quest for Julian. Their search takes them to a town outside the Mystic Falls. However, the Salvatore brothers have some disagreement, which leads Stefan to tackle the situation on his own. But his decision is going to make him regret forever. Stefan's actions lead to tragic consequences that will change the life of the Salvatores forever.
A promo video on TV Line for "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 7 Episode 9 teases the events of the midseason finale. It opens with Damon and Stefan strolling on the streets. As Damon runs out of beer, the brothers enter the nearest pub for the refill where they witness a horrifying sight of dead Santas.

Meanwhile, several media outlets are speculating the death of one of the Salvatores. MTV News, iSchool Guide and Inquisitr are speculating that Damon will die in Episode 9. According to the reports, a three-year flash forward scene showing Damon chained into a news anchor chair, covered in werewolf venom has prompted the speculation. It is said that he is also seen talking to his mother Lily, who appears in his hallucinations as a result of the venom spreading in his bloodstreams.
Synopsis also hint at a bonding moment for Nora and Bonnie, who are on a holiday toy drive at Whitmore College. Meanwhile, Caroline struggles through the changes in her as a pregnant vampire. As for Alaric, he is concerned about the effects of pregnancy on Caroline.
