A medical marijuana is set to use for critically ill patients led by the health officials in New York.
Health officials said marijuana will be used for medical purposes; however, questions remain as whether both doctors and patients will be enrolled in a system to make the drug available, WGRZ reported.
Medical marijuana is set on track next month.
Advocacy group Drug Policy Alliance's deputy state director Julie Netherland said that there was no sign of system yet for its availability to patients. The advocacy group said that, every day, many patients were calling them to sign up for the enrolment, the report said.
The certification process for the patients is yet to release according to the Health Department. The department will make it available for patients in a non-smokeable forms, the report added.
Back in 2014, a law was passed in New York allowing non-smokeable form as the only legal form for medical marijuana treatment.
An online course which takes four hours is required for doctors to enrol for the availability of the drugs. For the patients, the health department said that patient certification will be available soon, the report added.
It can be noted that some states permitted drugs to be used as medical purposes including marijuana, Scientific American reported.
This was when, over the past decade, the use of cannabis was legalized in the District of Columbia as well as in Alaska and Washington, the report added.
