It is now official that Mark Wahlberg will return in "Transformer 5" to reprise his role as Cade Yeager. However, it is unclear whether Michael Bay will come back to direct the movie.

When asked by CinePOP during the premiere of "Daddy's Home" whether he will be appearing in the upcoming "Transformer" film, Wahlberg quickly replied, "Yes." Reportedly, the 44-year-old actor will reprise his role as Cade Yeager, the scientist who assisted Optimus Prime and his crew in "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

Apart from Wahlberg, no other cast members have confirmed their roles for "Transformer 5" including Nicole Peltz, who played Wahlberg's daughter in the previous installment.

Meanwhile, after promising that he would not return to direct the fifth installment, Michael Bay is reportedly in talks with the production team for "Transformer 5." He recently admitted that he is holding meeting with Steven Spielberg to discuss the proposals, according to Cinema Blend.

However, it is not clear whether Bay will honor his word not to direct the upcoming installment or he will decide to come back on his directorial chair.

On the other hand, Paramount Pictures gathered a new set of scriptwriters to open the foundation of "Transformer 5." Among them was Akiva Goldsman, the Academy Award winner for the adapted screenplay of "A Beautiful Mind."

"Our hope is that they are all interconnected and of course standalone, right? I think architecturally, the best - I think I believe this - the best serialized storytelling has integrity from start to finish of the episode, whether it be TV or a movie or comic book or novel series or short story series," said Goldsman.

It is likely that the production would like to develop a script that could work two-way - a story that could either be continued or end the way it is, but maintain its effect on viewers.

"Transformer 5" is scheduled to hit the theaters in 2017. Here is a promo for the upcoming movie.
