Cheung, however, had not been seen in recent films since 2010 because she ventured into the music industry last year where she reportedly "flopped" her first-ever public performance.

Following the actress-turned-singer is Zhang Ziyi who receives a paycheck of 12 to 15 million yuan ($1.94 million to $2.42 million).

Tied at third place are female stars Zhao Wei and Zhou Xun, who both entered the list with a gross of 11 to 15 million yuan ($1.78 million to $2.42 million), per film.

Meanwhile, Sun Li is currently leading the top paid actress roster for television with a paycheck amounting to a staggering 87 million yuan ($1.40 million) for every episode she shoots.

Sun made her name in the television industry in 2012 when she starred as Zhen Huan in the hit TV series "The Legend of Zhen Huan."

Controversial actress Yao Di, who reportedly got tied up in an extramarital affair with actor Wen Zhang in 2014, made it to second place with a paycheck of 84 million yuan ($1.36 million) per episode, while Cecilia Cheung ranked third with 80 million yuan ($1.29 million).

Internationally acclaimed actress Fan Bingbing, together with actresses Zhou Xun and Zhao Wei, made 30 million yuan ($4.84 million) collectively.

Fan is playing the lead role in the TV series "The Empress of China," which is based on the life of China's very first and only female emperor, Wu Zetian.
