Serving as a crucial step for exporting nuclear construction, China has launched its first software package called NESTOR for its independent nuclear power technology.

According to Luo Qi, head of the China Nuclear Power Institute, one of the software's developers under the China National Nuclear Corporation, the package includes the "design, manufacturing, installation, testing and operation of a nuclear power project based on its Hualong One design."

"It will pave the way for China to export entire nuclear power projects and technologies," Luo further stated.

State-run Xinhua News Agency reported that the Hualong One design is China's third generation of nuclear reactor design for operations that are safer and more efficient.

The report added that the design will be widely used in the country's domestic and foreign-based nuclear power projects.

The NESTOR is composed of 68 pieces of software for a plant based on the Hualong One Design. It will help with its "more efficient reactor design, safety analysis, live tests, nuclear refueling and emergency response systems," the report said.

Owned by the state, CNNC builds, invests in and runs nuclear power plants. It developed the software package together with other research institutions, such as Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Tsinghua University.

Meanwhile, CNNC deputy general manager Yu Peige said that some of the software has already been adopted by nuclear power plants in the country.

CNNC developers will keep on updating the package to match the next generation nuclear power development, Yu added.
