Looking forward to expand its presence globally, DJI, the world's largest consumer drone maker, has recently unveiled its first retail store in Shenzhen, China Radio International reported.

According to Michael Perry, DJI's director for strategic partnerships, the 800-square-meter shop will be helpful in the Chinese company's goal of reaching out to more customers.

"We've now reached a size where we think we can reach a broader set of consumers, beyond the early adopters, beyond the tech guys who are just adopting new technology, but to a broader consumer market, who are really excited about the technology but they want to understand it before they use it," Perry said.

The recent years have seen the boom of commercial drones as the gadget became more mainstream. With this, the industry's major players have been stepping up their game to attract a wider range of consumers.

During the store's opening on Sunday, people flocked to watch DJI's demonstration sessions.

Liu Shaoge, one of the spectators, brought along his 7-month-old as he believes that drones make good toys for children.

"I think this is quite good. When my child is older, I'll buy one for him so he can play with it," the 36-year-old airline crew member shared. "This is good. We didn't have things like these when we were children. It will be good for children to play with them."

Another customer, IT consultant Jack Wan said that "DJI gives common people a chance to play with drones."

"In the past, using a drone was something exclusive, the idea seemed very far away from us. But now it's very close. And normal people can afford to buy one too," he said.

DJI offered discounts of up to 30 percent off for its first 300 customers.

The Chinese firm claims 70 percent of the global market for commercial drones.

Meanwhile, research group Taibo Intelligence estimated that the local drone industry will be able to pull off a revenue worth 2.5 billion yuan this year. It also revealed its forecast that the figure can grow eightfold by 2020.
