It can be recalled that there was a decrease in number of players in 2014, not until Blizzard released its "Warlords of Draenor" expansion pack where it received rave reviews and gained more followers, including those former subscribers.

Now to win back more former subscribers, there had been rumors earlier this month that the "World of Warcraft" will be adding a free-to-play version for veterans, wherein some suggests that it would be a full free-to-play rollout for all WoW gamers though, according to Ubergizmo, this is not really the case.

Due to these speculations, Blizzard explained in detail that the "Veteran Edition" is a free-to-play mode that is accessible for gamers who already have an account, specifically those who have an account but no longer have an active subscription, much like the restrictions in the trial Starter Edition.

Bashiok, "Warlords of Warcraft" Community manager, posted and clarified in WoW Oficial Forum that Wow's patch 6.1 will let former subscribers to log-in and play the game without spending money, just like newcomers are able to play in Starter Edition though the only difference is that the new mode will let the player's sub-level 20 characters join a guild, given that any of the gamers' character is on that specific guild. If the gamers' characters reached above level 20, they will then be locked out, unless re-subscribed.

It is also worthy to note that the term "Veteran Edition" is only a state called for accounts that does not have any active subscription and is not likely to be used when patch 6.1 is released.
