Within two years, Tesla would be ready to bring to the market its self-driving car, says Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Musk says the company has all the pieces needed to manufacture autonomous vehicles. Tesla is in the process of putting those pieces in place and ensuring those parts would work in different environments, reports Fortune.

George Holtz, a hacker, built a prototype self-driving vehicle in his garage in early 2015 in three and a half months. However, Musk explains, "It's easy to do a cool demo, it's hard to put something out. Especially software that's going to work on millions of different roads all around the world in a wide range of circumstances." These are driving in winter, summer, rain and dust, conditions where "there's a world of difference."

Meanwhile, Tesla continues to test-drive Model S, described by auto observers as having a technology that is "life-changing, exciting and scary." These are similar experiences to parenting, observes Sydney Morning Herald.

Model S features acceleration by 100 kmph in 2.8 seconds and linear acceleration of 713 pound-feet of torque. However, the Aussie daily raises concern of the car's Version 7.0 over-the-air update of its software covering auto steer, auto lane change, auto park and side collision avoidance.

But it also points out that Model S is "easy to use as cruise control and take no advanced understanding of auto technology."

The daily compares using autopilot to letting one's children drive the family car which involves a lot of trust. "You've got to be ready for it and acclimate to the reality that you're partially letting go of control."

Because of the update, owners of Model S who purchased their vehicles in September 2014 discovered in October 2015 that their cars now have self-driving capabilities.
