Christmas is over but the holiday spirit is still around as hundreds of shoppers flock to stores for great deals. Most people are still on last-minute gift shopping mode since there is still New Year to celebrate.

Lines at the cash registers were long with shoppers returning gifts, redeeming gift vouchers or just taking advantage of the Christmas sales. Most shops offer big marked down prices at this time of the year thus people really don't mind the traffic or huge crowd just to get things they want for less.

Even the popular store Target, stated that they put more staffs on the day after Christmas, just like what they did during Black Friday, because they expect the rush of shoppers.

Commenting on the duration of post-Christmas sales, Target manager Neil Crowley said on TOP News, "They carry over for a couple days. The big Christmas sales really do last for a couple days after Christmas."

Crowley also called the days from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2, 2016 as "redemption week" because the number of people using their gift cards or exchanging items are high this year.

"Everybody's using gift cards, they're redeeming stuff and for my side of it we are trying to put the store back together from before the holidays," he stated.

Moreover, the online sales for the post-Christmas shopping also increase by as much as 20 percent. On her interview with The Street, senior vice president of Market Insights at Sarah Quinlan stated, "It absolutely was a happy holiday for the retailers. Apparel did well, furniture did very very well, and a big winner that's received a lot of press is e-commerce which saw a 20% rise in sales."

Lastly, Quinlan concluded that shoppers were spending the cash that they were able to save from lower gas prices across the nation.
