Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Chow’s latest comedy, “The Mermaid,” is set to hit the theaters across China next month during Spring Festival, and the cast have dished on what fans should expect in addition to praising the director for his focus on detail and desire to attain perfection.

Director Chow is reputable for having strict demands from the actors and actresses who feature in his movies. However, the cast, particularly those taking lead roles like Show Luo and Kris Wu, pointed out that they still enjoyed filming the science fiction comedy, according to CRI English.

Luo said, "I have to repeat my performance several times to meet the director's demands. It's toilsome but fun too."

The lead actor added that every detail of the movie is the best it can be because Grandmaster Sing carefully selects it.

Chow has also shared his acting expertise and experience with upcoming stars like Zhang Yuqi and Li Shangzheng.

Talking in an interview with CCTV, Chinese actress Zhang said, "He offers us infinite challenges."

Li, an actor from Hong Kong, appreciated the director, saying, "We have benefited a lot from you. Thank you!"

Meanwhile, the theme song of the film, which released recently, is a classic titled "You Are Still the Best in the World." The song is originally from the 1983 hit drama "Legend of the Condor Heroes," and it was re-recorded by Karen Mok and Adam Cheng.

The song marks the first cooperation between Chow and Mok in 15 years.

"The Mermaid" is slated for a Feb. 8 release, the first day of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey.
