The next heroic science fiction "Avatar 2" has already started filming and may take more time than its expected release.

Speculations are now circulating that the sequel is going to be delayed due to innovation of a new technology for shooting sequences underwater, which is anticipated to take more time. The film sequel is expected to be released during Christmas of 2017, but the dates have been pushed further as it won't be ready by then.

Producer James Cameron has been providing hints that the movie will be out by the holiday; however, it's going to take a lot more time to finish the movie in the first place.

Moreover, Twentieth Century Fox never really confirmed a release date for "Avatar 2," as posted by Slash Film, but it was Cameron who got really interested in having the film released on the holidays. However, with so many tasks involved to get the film done, it is not expected to be out on Christmas 2017, but on a date further.

Also, another update shows that Disney is planning to release its upcoming movie "Star Wars: Episode VIII" on Dec. 20, 2017. Twentieth Century Fox has diverted the release of "Avatar 2" ahead of the holiday so it clearly avoids clashes of the two giant franchises, as reported Movie News Guide.

Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are about to repeat their roles in the film sequel, including Sigourney Weaver, although details about their roles have not really been elaborated as of now.

The upcoming movie is part of a trilogy which will be launched at the same time with the making of the film side-by-side. To develop and shoot three movies in one single time is surely a challenging task, so it makes no big surprise if it is going to be delayed.

So let's keep a close watch if it really should be out on Christmas of 2017.
