The NBA Free Agency rumors continue even if we're in the middle of probably the most important time of the season.
Rajon Rondo is leading the NBA in assists and that alone would merit him a big payday and possible redemption from his nightmare with the Dallas Mavericks last season.
With the Sacramento Kings, he was given free rein over the offense and he had the league's best big man as his recipient. However, when the season ends, he could choose any team, and that includes the team with the biggest market, the team that badly needs a point guard-the New York Knicks.
That is a scenario that the league anticipates because they believe it is likely. The Knicks could probably have a better chance to pry Rondo from the Kings than Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies. However, no less than Rondo himself shot it down while he was talking with ESPN.
"The triangle's not really a good look for me, I don't think," Rondo said.
ESPN's Ian Begley noted that the Phil Jackson triangle offense set up did not feature a ball-heavy point guard. It also did not rely on the pick and roll so it does make sense for Rondo to admit that it's not an ideal fit.
The Knicks have already been involved with rumors for Jeff Teague of the Atlanta Hawks.
According to CBS, Rondo might still end up in New York, but not with the Knicks.
"If Rondo leaves Sacramento for New York, it seems more likely that he'd look at signing with the Brooklyn Nets, a franchise that generally loves big names and will have loads of money to spend," CBS James Herbert wrote. "It would be a little bit weird, though, to see him go to the team that briefly employed his former teammates Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett."
The report stated that some of the other factors that Rondo is considering are still up in the air for the Nets, but money is still no object.
Herbert continued: "Rondo said that the coach and style of play will be the biggest factors in his decision. He knows he needs the ball in his hands to be effective, especially after what happened with the Dallas Mavericks last season. Further, he likes to have a lot of responsibility, a lot of touches and a lot of freedom. It is hard to imagine him even warming up to the idea of running the triangle offense, let alone choosing to do so."
