HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift: Virtual reality war - HTC Vive better than Oculus Rift with its motion controllers

| Feb 09, 2016 08:39 AM EST

Oculus Rift has been on the headlines just recently and they owe it to the much-awaited price announcement; however, it is said that HTC Vive will give Rift VR a tough competition on Virtual Reality department this year.

Oculus Rift has been on the headlines just recently and they owe it to the much-awaited price announcement; however, this is just one of the many high profile, mass market VR headsets tasked to reach customers at one point in 2016.

Its toughest competition is HTC Vive, which is a motion-tracking collaboration between gaming juggernaut Valve and smartphone maker HTC, Gamespot reported.

If you have been a supporter to the VR arms race, you will know that unlike Sony's PlayStation VR or Rift VR, Vive makes its users move around an area of about 15 square feet. This is due to the headset's accompanying "Lighthouse" base stations and its built-in, front-facing camera. Coupled with the bundled-in motion controllers, according to Archy News, together they make the Vive headset the most powerful in providing immersive amusement.

Still, there are many things one doesn't know about Vive. The device is tentatively scheduled to be shipped as early as April, and pre-orders are confirmed to start on the Feb. 29. However, there are no details about the price while the ship date is part of a hazy release schedule. Just recently, avid gamers are not even sure what types of games and experiences they can get with Vive.

Appreciatively, Valve concluded to fill in that specific blank with a recent invite-only press event that showcased 12 titles coming to Vive at some point this year - probably during the launch or thereafter. This is not only a significant and pleasantly intimate look at Vive's various line-ups, it also gave us more time with a near-final version of the consumer hardware.

The HTC Vive has an adjustable Velcro straps and foam-lined face mask, which makes it very light and comfortable than any other earlier models. It isn't as inconvenient as its competitors; it's really easy to adjust into a sizable chunk of plastic strap on your face.

So expect to hear more soon about this product, but for now, you can check the 12 diverse and creative games that eventual Vive owners can play.
