Prudential Center confirmed on Sunday that it will be hosting WWE's first pay-per-view event after Wrestlemania 32, Payback. However, that simple announcement on Twitter didn't go unnoticed because of the appearance of Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose on its promotional poster.
Historically, Payback is usually that PPV event where the losing competitor in the main event of Wrestlemania gets another crack at vindication.
However, there are times the narrative shifts to a new and more intriguing feud right away like what happened last year when WWE dropped a Wrestlemania main eventer Lesnar and instead offered a Fatal Four-Way match featuring Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Reigns and Ambrose at Payback 2015.
WhatCulture WWE writer Grahame Herbert said he wouldn't be surprised if WWE pushes for Ambrose vs. Reigns match and it's for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
"The choice of picture could be a clue that the two men will be wrestling each other for the WWE Championship at the event. Ambrose has been on a slow burn heel turn for a long time, and the expectation was that he'd be feuding with Reigns this spring for the WWE Title. The Payback image is strong evidence that WWE are indeed going down that route.
Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Ambrose Lesnar is the booking for Mania, after WWE decided to drop the planned Bray Wyatt Lesnar match. As for Reigns, he is looking like a certainty to defeat Triple H for the WWE Title."
Since Seth Rollins left the Shield for greener pastures with the Authority, Reigns and Ambrose have kept their alliance intact through several battles inside the ring. On the other hand, both are also obsessed of becoming the top man in the WWE, and all bets are off - including their friendship - if ever the WWE title is on the line.
