"The Bachelorette" star Emily Maynard revealed she suffered from extreme feelings of insecurity and solitude as a teen that she almost killed herself consequently.
Maynard, who was overdosed on prescription pills at the age of 16, told People, "I never really wanted to end things. I was screaming for help and I did it in the extreme way. It makes me sad to think about. I didn't have hope in anything."
The 30-year-old star, who grew up in West Virginia, unveiled that she was having a difficult moment adjusting to a new boarding school in Boca Raton, Fla. She was focused on the part of her heart that was empty that she could not see beyond where she was at the time.
During the brutal moment of her life, "The Bachelorette" star's mental disposition was so weak that she was compelled to stay in a psych ward two times in six months, including after her suicide attempt. The suicide confession comes on the verge of other Bachelor catastrophes. Lex McAllister killed herself last week and Gia Allemand committed suicide in 2013.
According to Radar Online, Maynard as well had a hard time finding lasting love as a contestant on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette." She first fell hard for Brad Womack in "The Bachelor" 2011. She acknowledged that Womack was kind hearted and could make somebody happy.
Maynard's relationship with her now ex-fiancé, Jef Holm, for "The Bachelorette" 2012 ended just as badly. According to Maynard, they had fun together to the extent that she believed the two were on the same page, only to end up not working out. Maynard said, "I wanted that love so bad. I felt there was something wrong with me if I couldn't make it work-again."
Now, Maynard has been married to Tyler Johnson since 2014, and the two are raising their 7-month old son, Jennings. The couple also lives with Maynard's 11-year-old daughter, Ricki, whom she got with her late Nasca driver boyfriend Ricky Hendrick. While Maynard's life is headed in the right direction, she admitted that sometimes she still has a tough time coping.
"The Bachelorette" star said, "As great as things are now, it's been a struggle for me internally, dealing with fulfillment, looking for my purpose and wondering where I fit in."
