Sony is replacing Xperia C and Xperia Z series with the Xperia X.

Xiaomi is known to serve the Asian market, but there are rumors that the new Xiaomi Mi 5 will be the company's first smartphone to launch officially in the global market. However, Sony Xperia X Performance will launch in Asia as it European availability is being gauged.

According to Stuff TV, as Samsung and LG were revealing their beautiful S7 and G5 smartphones, Sony unveiled that the Xperia Z6 will seemingly never be released. Sony launched three new handsets at MWC, but only two of them - Xperia X and Xperia XA - will hit the UK market.

Both Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xperia X Performance stick to the 5-inch, 1080p format - whereby the Mi 5 is 5.15-inch, but close enough. The two smartphones run on the powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset and focus heavily on camera. While Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 16MP OIS camera, Sony's Xperia X has a 23MP camera.

Furthermore, the Xperia X Performance is water resistant and sports Sony's traditional front stereo speakers. The model comes with an option for a beautiful brushed metal back.

On the other hand, the standard Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a glass/metal case, but the premium Pro model will use ceramics and ship with an internal memory of 128GB, according to GSM Arena. The smartphone however has no microSD slot for expansion.

Sony's latest smartphone look and feel like a flagship phone, but delves a little deeper and it is not quite the real deal. The smartphone does not come with the latest processor or a 2K screen, although Sony has incorporated the waterproof feature, which was notable on the Xperia Z variant.

Another feature that Sony has taken into consideration is battery life, which is among the most important features for many users.

Both Sony and Xiaomi improved their design, but spotty availability may deter their growth. For those who have the two smartphones in their regions, they have a opportunity to choose based on the features that best suit them.
