Google has reportedly enlisted Atlanta as one of the areas where the company will put up a Fiber gigabit Internet service. The project from Google will provide residents from Atlanta more options for Internet and television connections, according to AJC.

It was said that Google will announce their plan on Jan. 27, Tuesday, since it has scheduled a press conference in Atlanta but failed to reveal the agenda.

The only information about the event is that the public will hear about the plans of the city officials together with Google for the residents in Metro Atlanta. The information was sent to the press via email.

Last year, a spokesperson from Google announced that the installation of fiber Internet service was delayed but Atlanta residents can expect the news early this year. On Jan. 26, Monday, evening, Google reportedly revealed that the project will be implemented at areas such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham and Nashville, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Google Fiber Internet service is reportedly a hundred times speedier than the average connection used in local homes. The project has already been set up in Provo, Utah, Kansas City and recently in Austin.

In February 2014, the tech giant declared that it will provide the Internet service to several areas such as Brookhaven, Avondale Estates, College Park, East Point, Decatur, Hapeville, Smyrna and Sandy Springs. Google reportedly requested permits from the city governments to put up the project and rights to build the area for the Fiber Internet.

Similarly, AT&T announced three months ago that it will add Fiber Internet connections in Atlanta, Decatur, Sandy Springs and Newman. Aside from those areas, AT&T is planning to expand in Duluth, Lithonia, Marietta, Alpharetta, Norcross McDonough and Woodstock.

Although the company has not revealed the date of implementation and the price of the service, AT&T is considered to be Google's rival for this project. Fast Internet connection is greatly needed especially nowadays since people communicate online and use the web for business transactions.

Atlanta residents are expecting to know more about Google's Fiber Internet service after the scheduled press conference.
