After battling for cervical cancer for two years, country singer Joey Feek passed away on March 4, Friday. She will be laid to rest in a service at the Feek family cemetery, though a date has not yet been specified.

The funeral will be a private affair wherein Joey will be buried in a simple wood box on their family property. The fans who wanted to offer their condolence are urged to send donations in lieu of flowers, as announced by Owens Memorial Services.

Joey was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014 after which she underwent a successful surgery, only to find out that the cancer had returned one year later. She ultimately gave up the painful treatment in October 2015.

After spending months in hospice care to stay close to his terminally ill wife, the late singer's bereaved husband Rory Feek returned home to Tennessee. He has been constantly updating the fans on his blog This Life I Live about his wife's sickness and her last days.

On March 6, Sunday, Rory took to Instagram to upload a pic of open skies and green fields.

"... making plans that I hoped we would never have to make," the country music singer, 49, captioned the photo, which was reportedly taken at his Tennessee farm. Back in November 2015, Rory had mentioned on his blog that Joey had already made it clear how and where she want herself to be buried.

Joey's last month of her short life was filled with milestones. Not only the couple was nominated for their first Grammy Award, the late singer also saw their final album be released and reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts for country and Christian contemporary, and even received the Sagamore of the Wabash, the top honor the state of Indiana gives.

Joey was also able to celebrate her daughter's second birthday. However, soon after the whirlwind weeks, the singer Joey reportedly told Rory that she was tired of fighting and fell into deep sleep. Rory had mentioned in his blog that Joey was likely in her final days, a couple of days before she passed away.
