There are some great mid-range smartphones in the market that buyers should take advantage of, and special mention to this department would be Sony's Xperia M4 Aqua and Xiaomi's Redmi 2. To help smartphone geeks to choose between Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and Xiaomi Redmi 2, we will now compare them to see which one has better specs and performance.

When it comes to their design, Xperia M4 Aqua has an omnibalance design that has polycarbonate edging. Its back is made out of glass, which to some is not a good thing since it will likely get scratches when placed to any surface; however, Xperia M4 Aqua's interior is waterproof and dustproof. On the other hand, there's nothing outstanding to Xiaomi Redmi 2 as it only has a simple design with curved edges and plastic back cover.

In terms of display, Xiaomi Redmi 2 sports 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen display at 1280px720p backed with 312 ppi, while Xperia M4 Aqua offers larger screen size at 5.0-inch IPC LCD that supports 1280x720 pixel resolution at lower pixel density of 294ppi. In this case, Redmi 2 gives more clarity and detail to images than M4 Aqua. Furthermore, Xperia M4 Aqua's screen is protected by a scratch resistant glass, while Redmi 2 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

In terms of camera, Sony Xperia M4 Aqua features 13MP rear camera and 5MP selfie shooter. Other features that its camera offers include autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, panorama, LED flash and face detection. Xiaomi Redmi 2, on the other hand, features 8MP rear camera and 2MP front snapper, which is not that good for selfies. Redmi 2's camera also has auto focus, touch focus, LED flash, face detection and geo-tagging.

In terms of storages, Xperia M4 Aqua is available in two variants - 8GB and 16GB. Redmi 2 offers the same variants of 8GB and 16GB; however, its microSD support can only be expanded up to 32GB, unlike M4 Aqua's 128GB maximum microSD storage.

When it comes to battery capacity, Xperia M4 Aqua offers higher battery capacity at 2400 mAh, but a drawback would be it is non-removable. Once the battery is damaged, users will not be able to remove or replace it anymore. Xiaomi Redmi 2 may have a weaker battery capacity of 2200 mAh compared to M4 Aqua, but at least, it can be removed or replaced once damaged.
