'Descendants of the Sun’ stars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.

The rise of the “Descendants of the Sun” of Chinese and South Korean television continues simultaneous with the TV drama’s sound track dominating radio stations in the two nations.

On Thursday, Soompi.com reported that the fifth episode of the record-breaking show aired on Wednesday had a 27.4 rating across South Korea. However, in Seoul, the rating breached the 30 percent mark with an impressive 31.2 percent viewership, according to Nielsen Korea.

It contrast, its competitors in the Wednesday-Thursday drama genre got single-digit viewership in South Korea. “Please Come Back, Mister,” aired over SBS, got 5.2 percent and “One More Happy Ending” of MBC was 3.2 percent.

The anticipated kiss between the stars of “Descendants of the Sun” was aired on Episode 5. Also to be seen this Thursday is Yoo Si Jin’s (Song Joong Ki) rescue of Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) as her vehicle teeters off the side of a cliff. He then forces the car to fall into the ocean below. The cliff-hanger of this episode is Yoo Si Jin asking her about the wine kiss by throwing to Kang Mo Yeon the question, “Should I apologize or confess?”

In the comments section of Viki, a TV guide, it could be seen that the show’s followers are not just from the two countries since the episodes are also available on YouTube. For instance, there were comments in the French language. The average rating that the TV drama got from the 1,319 who rated it is 9.8 out of 10.

After watching Episode 1, aarone168_439 confessed to being hooked. mary_ann_fabrigas appreciates that the storyline is different from other Korean dramas she has watched in the past.

What caught the attention of chrsogb_383 is the instant chemistry between the lead stars, while nathalia_zumstein gushed that she is “already completely in love with this drama.”

Like chrsogb_383, lola-847 also liked the chemistry between Yoo Si Jin and Kang Mo Yeon, but dislikes the part where the terror group ISIS is included.
