‘The Vampire Diaries’ cancellation rumors: Ian Somerhalder blames Nina Dobrev for not sticking around

Ian Somerhalder plays the lead character of Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries."

"The Vampire Diaries" is in danger of being axed after season 7.

Throughout the entire season, only one episode of the show has received reasonable ratings.

"Moonlight in the Bayou" was the crossover episode that saw a brief reunion between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

The episode also showed Klaus talking to Caroline (Candice Accola-King) on the phone after a long time of not hearing anything from each other.

However, the episode that aired following episode 14 once again did not fare well in terms of ratings.

With this, fans couldn't help but feel worried with the possibility of the show being axed from The CW.

Meanwhile, there are also some rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder is blaming his ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev for the fate of the show.

Following Dobrev's exit, "The Vampire Diaries'" ratings toppled down.

In fact, even though executive producer Julie Plec already said that there's hope for Dobrev to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert, fans just can't accept the fact that she's currently not part of the show.

At one point, Plec also said that "TVD" is not really about Elena, but the Salvatore brothers. However, this statement also didn't encourage fans to stick around.

Meanwhile, with the upcoming cancellation of "The Vampire Diaries," fans started asking Plec what she plans to do with the characters.

According to the exec, "The Originals" has a higher chance for renewal so it's possible that the "TVD" characters will transition to be part of the newer show.

However, nothing has been cast in stone yet as more twists and turns are expected to be included in the upcoming episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

For instance, Caroline previously told Stefan that she will stay elsewhere with Alaric (Matt Davis) and their children in an attempt to protect them from the vampire huntress Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff).

Stefan and Caroline's relationship is about to end, and the former could go back to his old flame Valerie (Elizabeth Blackmore).

Bonnie (Kat Graham) is currently pissed at Damon for leaving her and Stefan behind. The former will eventually end up with Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays on The CW.
