Facebook and Instagram faced outages for some hours during the second update at late night 3:56 a.m on Jan. 28, Tuesday. The second update introduced some sort of changes in both the social media channels which ultimately resulted in technical glitches.

According to the spokesman of these channels, the technical changes "affected our configuration systems,"

In a statement to USA TODAY, a Facebook spokesman confirmed that it was "not the result of a third party attack". "We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100% for everyone."

The Facebook spokesman said that the company "was aware that many people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

The whole thing was first noticed around 1.10 a.m. on Jan. 28, Tuesday. This resulted in issues while accessing these websites especially affecting the users in Asia and the United States.

The users who tried to logon to these social media platforms were greeted with some error message and were unable to logon to their accounts.

The exact reason for this outage was not cleared immediately, but the Instagram service said that it was aware of this outage and was working to fix it quickly for the users.

Nevertheless, WhatsApp- another mobile messaging service owned by Facebook was not affected by the internal glitch. The users found no errors while using this app.

Some Facebook and Instagram customers took to Twitter on early Tuesday morning and reported about the outage by using hashtag #facebookdown.
