Howard Stern called Sam Smith "fat" and "ugly" on a radio show but the "Stay with me" singer responded calmly, according to MTV.

The Sirius XM radio host added that Smith has a beautiful voice but he will only have a one hit wonder. Aside from calling him "fat" and "ugly," Stern said that the singer is "effeminate," "gay" and "chubby."

Smith's only response was a tweet saying that what he heard was unbelievable. The "Stay with me" singer posted another message on Twitter that only contained the word "ignore."

On Instagram, Smith expressed his views and posted a mirror selfie wearing an opened jacket. He wrote: "I say what's on my mind. I might do a little time."

As for Stern, the host explained his remarks about Smith on Tuesday. Stern said that he was saying that Smith is relatable because he is "fat" and "gay." He added that the singer succeeded since young girls adore him and that is the evidence of having real talent.

The host complained that his statement was taken out of context since the tabloids only focused about the "fat" and "gay" comments.  Stern further revealed that he found it funny but at least he gained publicity. The only thing that made him feel bad is the fact that Smith thinks Stern dislikes him when in fact he loves him.

When Stern was asked if he has issued with Smith being gay, the host answered that he actually loves Smith since he is gay and he adores the singer's song "Stay with me," which is in fact in his playlist.

Smith is actually open about weight and gender issues. The singer has shared in an interview that he had a large body when he was a teenager but he is now following a strict diet. Smith added that he loves food and if he did not control his appetite he would be riding an "electronic scooter" due to his heavy weight, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The singer has also openly shared his relationship with boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel, who appeared on his music video "Like I Can."

Smith has proven his talent since he is currently nominated for six Grammy Awards, which will happen on Feb. 8.
