Samsung brought back many features when it launched its Galaxy S7, including water resistance, expandable storage, and a high-capacity battery. However, there was a new feature rumored for the 2016 flagship that was absent, which is the USB Type-C port.
While fans may think the South Korean tech giant was not interested in USB Type-C, the manufacturer released its Galaxy TabPro S tablet in the United States on March 18, which has a USB Type-C port, according to iDigital Times. The tablet was unveiled in January, a month ahead of the Galaxy S7, but the presence of USB Type-C port on the gadget could show that Samsung is set to implement USB Type-C on future devices, such as smartphones.
The publication spoke with Jennifer Langan, Samsung director of mobile product marketing, during the Galaxy TabPro launch event, who pointed out that the introduction of USB Type-C port on a tablet ahead of any manufacturer's smartphone is somehow off-band for the company. Langan told the publication, "Usually it's the phones that get the latest and greatest features, and then the tablets get them next. This is the one time where we got it backwards."
The introduction of the USB Type-C port does not confirm Samsung's plans, but it is possible the development of the next high-end smartphone is already underway. Galaxy S7 is already on the market, and it should be just five months before the manufacturer unveils the next flagship. The market expects a refurbish of the Galaxy Note line between August and September, but latest rumors suggest the smartphone could come out as early as July.
It is speculated that the next Galaxy Note will pack features like 16GB RAM or 256GB internal memory, according to Know Your Mobile The USB Type-C port would likely be a plausible upgrade. The port is reputable for its fast charging and data transfer capabilities, and it is quickly becoming a staple feature for Samsungs rival manufacturers.
