Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be released alongside Microsoft Surface Book 2 and the much-rumored Surface Phone, codenamed Panos Phone.

Speculations are rife that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date has been pushed to 2017, due to the delay in the development of Microsoft's latest operating system - Windows 10 Redstone 2.

According to ZDnet, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to run on the latest operating system Windows 10 Redstone 2. As the latter is still in the developmental stages, so the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 launch has been severely impacted. It is rumoured that Microsoft Corporation is purposely delaying the development and pre-production stages of the Surface Pro 5.

On the other hand, there are also reports that Microsoft is doing this to give way for the upcoming smartphone flagship, which is the Surface Phone. This device may sport many high-end features, combining the best of Microsoft's Surface Pro and Surface Book line.

The tech giant is planning to launch this device this year and they want 2016 to be all about the Surface Phone. So, without any risk of overshadowing the Surface Phone, the Surface Pro 5 will be delayed till 2017 at the least. Microsoft wants to remove the Surface tablet as being the current highlight of the company, and wants to invest their time and effort in bringing the Surface Phone to the table.

The Surface Pro series is more or less a tablet hybrid gadget. The rumoured specs of the Surface Pro 5 are certainly top notch. It will be armed with the Intel Sky Lake 6th generation processor and this will make the device highly powerful. The device will also come with a 4K graphics display screen.

The upcoming device is also expected to be equipped with a stylus pen along with a charging dock. The Surface Pen feature is most likely be a confirmed feature since a patent application from Microsoft was recently confirmed for the same, according to Patently Mobile.

It is also speculated to be armed with the finger print scanner integrated on the screen itself. This will eliminate the need of a keyboard to scan the finger prints and unlock the device. The device will run Windows 10 Redstone 2 operating system, which is the latest offering from Microsoft at the moment. The price of the device is yet to be revealed.
