Will "Supergirl" get renewed for a second season?

With the season finale of “Supergirl” airing last Monday, April 18, fans of the CBS series are at the edge of their seats waiting for season 2 renewal or cancellation announcements. Although the massive cliffhanger at the end of season 1, does not guarantee that we will be seeing more of Melissa Benoist in the future, “Supergirl” executive producer Ali Adler remains optimistic that the DC Comics based series will be renewed.

In an interview with TV Line, Adler shared that they had heard "very positive" things about the possibility of "Supergirl' season 2. She added that both CBS executives Glenn Geller and Bridget Willey were all very supportive and eager to know what the second season will bring.

The season finale ended with Kara (Benoist) surviving her toughest mission yet and finally beating Fort Rozz. The episode also showed a steamy kiss between Kara and James (Mehcad Brooks) but she got distracted when a Kyrptonian pod landed outside her loft. Unfortunately, viewers did not get to see what or who is inside. Adler admitted that they had an idea on what or who is inside the pod and how it could possibly affect Kara in "Supergirl" season 2.

Speaking about Kara and James, the showrunner also admitted that if "Supergirl" will be renewed, they would definitely want to explore the duo's relationship futher.

"We wanted to pay off the chemistry that we've felt all season from them and see how we could set up the possibility of exploring a relationship," she explained.

While CBS has yet to announce the show's renewal, Carter Matt speculated that it is bound to happen anytime soon. The publication went far as saying that if the network will cancel the show, it will go down as "one of the most surprising cancellations" to date. They pointed out that while its ratings have been less than stellar, it drew more viewers compared to other CBS shows. It was said that "Supergirl" also has quite a lot of followers on social media.

"It provides publicity in a way that few other shows do, and we do imagine that this does account for something."

Tune in for more "Supergirl" season 2 spoilers and cast updates.
