Sprint starts releasing Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5 Sport

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S5 Sport users on Sprint are now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Users of two Samsung smartphones that were launched in 2014, the Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy S5 Sport, have something to smile about since they are receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Customers of the Note Edge on Sprint will have their phone go from Android 5.1 Lollipop to the latest Google android OS. The over-the-air (OTA) update is currently rolling out for Galaxy Note Edge with the version number N915PVPU4DPD.

The software update started rolling out on the Note Edge from April 21 and it will run through May 2, according to the Sprint Community website. The United States carrier is pushing out the update in stages, and therefore, it may take some time before it reaches all subscribers of the Galaxy Note Edge on Sprint.

It is reported that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Note Edge users on Sprint will not only improve the OS of the smartphone, but also bring a number of bug fixes. In addition, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring security updates from Google and Samsung to the smartphone.

With regard to the Galaxy S5 Sport, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will only boost the smartphone from Android Lollipop to the latest Operating System. This update comes on the Galaxy S5 Sport a few weeks after the device benefitted from the upgrade.

According to a different statement from the same publication, the OTA update for the Sprint variant of the Galaxy S5 Sport comes with the version number Samsung G860PVPU2CPD1. The carrier revealed that the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Sport runs from April 21 through May 11.

Just like user of the Galaxy Note Edge, those having Galaxy S5 Sport will receive the update in phases. As a result, there is no call for alarm is a user does not receive the update immediately.

Sprint reminded in a statement that since devices receive the update in stage every day, Customer Care cannot tell exactly when a specific user will get the update. Therefore, Sprint users should not call to ask. One can check if their device has received the update by going to Settings>About Device>Software Update.
