The distributor of "Descendants of the Sun" found a partner in China who would help produce a Chinese version of the 16-episode blockbuster Korean Halyu.

However, details are not yet available for the upcoming Chinese version the drama, whether it would have the same plot as the South Korean version or it would be Chinese actors who would perform the roles played by Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-ki and other South Korean actors, reported ATimes.

NEW, the production company behind “Descendants of the Sun” confirmed that it has been receiving a lot of queries about remakes and optional publication rights, but it has ruled out a Season 2. “It is true that we have been negotiating with several companies,” MBN Star quoted the representative of NEW on Thursday.

Hallyu experts attribute the addiction of Asian and global viewers to the Korean drama to the show having all the elements of an excellent program, namely: a good story, outstanding landscapes, beautiful actresses and handsome actors. ATimes described the show as being a “Harry Potter”-like phenomenon.

Om Bee, a Korean drama addict, opined that the reason behind the extreme popularity of the show is the plot caters to the two types of viewers: the testosterone-type, or action, and estrogen-type, or romance. “It’s a perfect combination of both,” Om Bee pointed out.

Gaitsiri Mongkolsmai Lin, a resident of Sunnyvale near Koreatown, added, “The world loves the romance, and while it wasn’t a perfect drama, as none are, the focus was always on the love, the banner, the tension and angst, while trying to inject interesting happenings.”
