Animal rights group PETA has criticized pop star Justin Bieber for posing with a chained tiger during his father's engagement in Toronto, Canada, over the weekends. The animal rights advocate that campaigns, ethical treatment of animals immediately sent an open letter to Bieber to warn him that he posed with an abused tiger.
It was supposed to be one of the happiest times for Bieber's father, Jeremy Bieber, after he got engaged to his now fiancée Chelsea Rebelo. The older Bieber brought an opera singer, superheroes, a boxer and a tiger from Bowmanville Zoo to the engagement party. However, the "Sorry" singer Bieber and other guests were possibly unaware that the owner of the animal is Michael Hackenberger.
Hackenberger was recently charged with five counts of cruelty to animals. PETA discovered this when they led an undercover footage that showed Hackenberger beating a young tiger during a training. He was not new in the Hollywood scene, and has supplied tigers for various movies, including "The Interview" and "Life of Pi."
"Justin and other guests are lucky that they weren't attacked by the wild animals. In similar situations, animals have been known to lash out because of the stress of their miserable lives," PETA said in the statement released on their website. The animal rights group, also warned the singer and his family not to use animals again in the same purpose.
On its website, PETA requested everyone to never support events that use animals as a form of entertainment. According to the group, supporting these functions would mean that they support animal suffering.
It was not the first time for the younger Bieber to have a run-in with an animal rights group. Three years ago, his monkey called OG Mally was seized by German customs officials during his flight to Munich for a scheduled performance. Investigations revealed that the monkey was just over 10 weeks old that time, according to Daily Mail.
The Animal rights group slammed the singer for his monkey. The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance (NAPSA) claimed animals such as monkeys should not be taken away from their mothers and their family before they turn one.
Bieber has yet to comment on the latest criticisms he received from PETA. Some Bieber supporters believed that the singer should not be the one criticized over the chained tiger, but the party organizer. His father Jeremy has remained silent on the allegations.
