Tesla cars present a reliable solution to air pollution, but how?

Tesla Model X is contained in a bubble with highly polluted air to test the efficiency of Bioweapon Defense Mode filtration system

Air pollution is a global threat, which is why when Tesla's Bioweapon Defense Mode has been hitting headlines everywhere after the company puts its air purification system to the test. The automaker claims its HEPA filters are a reliable solution to air pollution.

Tesla recently published a report with statistical details about the efficacy of its HEPA filters and Bioweapon Defense Mode. "Health and safety are important to us," Tesla Motors wrote on its official blog. "We felt compelled to protect them against the statistically more relevant hazard of air pollution."

"We then closed the falcon doors and activated Bioweapon Defense Mode," the company also wrote. The results were astonishing: air pollution levels inside the bubble had dropped to 40 percent in less than 2 minutes. While healthy and good quality air is indexed with a standard 12 µg/m3, this drop in pollution also accounts a great deal.

The new air filtration system by Tesla Motors is what people commonly see in hospitals. According to the company, its HEPA air purifier keeps out health-risking pollutants out of the cabin, including pollen, bacteria. The automaker also claimed that the new filter also purifies the air inside the car.

Not only HEPA effective, it is hundreds of times more efficient than a typical automotive filtration system. This translates into a clean and healthy cabin atmosphere, irrelative to the air pollution level outside the vehicle,

HEPA was demonstrated in the live traffic on California freeway at the time of the road sustained heavy traffic. Additionally, more tests were conducted in highly polluted air including marshes, landfills, cow pastures of CF and major cities in China known for its high levels of air pollution.

Bioweapon Defense Mode showed promising results, but the big claim that Tesla made that could really become a selling point for Tesla cars. According to the blog, the revolutionary filtration system not only cleaned the air inside the car but outside as well.

In a bubble experiment, Tesla used Bioweapon Defense Mode in a controlled environment to measure its effect on the surrounding air. It did so by putting Model X in a closed container where the level of air pollution, created artificially, was 1,000 µg/m3.

On the other hand, the company said that the BDM was not a marketing statement it did make a big deal out of it by claiming that people can "literally survive a military grade bio attack" by sitting in their car. This clarifies why the Tesla included Bioweapon Defense in its name.

The all-new 2016 Tesla Model X and Model S will be bestowed with the new Bioweapon Defense Mode filtration system. HEPA cleans the air inside and outside the car against bacteria, viruses, pollen and mold spores. This new technology is exactly what heavily crowded cities need to fight the air pollution, according to Tech Crunch
