Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry bags his second straight MVP award and it was handed over to him in game five in their semis match-up against the Portland TrailBlazers, which they won. However, some believe that he does not deserve the unanimous decision.
Now, the Warriors are moving to the Western Conference Finals, where they will face the winner of the San Antonio Spurs versus the Oklahoma City Thunder series, which the latter lead three games to two. Now, there is no question that Curry deserves the award as he led his team to a record-breaking 73-9 record, becoming the newest team with the most wins in a regular season.
During the MVP voting process, Curry received all first place votes, making him the unanimous MVP. However, this raised questions as some felt it was unfair that Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James did not get at least one vote for his effort to take the Cavaliers to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Upon hearing the news, James said in an interview that this is a non-issue as he does not want to take anything away from Curry. There is no denying that his numbers were beyond impressive as not only did he averaged 30 points per contest, he broke his own three-point shooting record of 286 made threes and set a mark that will probably take ages to break, 402.
James added that the word "valuable" is open for discussion as there are plenty of players aside from him whose value is worthy of being considered an MVP. LeBron has bagged four MVP trophies so far in his career.
"I think sometimes the word 'valuable' or best player of the year, you can have different results," James told ESPN. "You know, that's not taking anything from anyone that's ever won the award."
In other news, James and Curry are part of another feat as their jerseys are among the top three selling this season, Bleacher Report reported. Curry ranked first while future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant took second place and James sits at the third spot. The fourth belongs to New York Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis, who had been a revelation over the course of the season.
