Canelo Alvarez knocks out Amir Khan during their May 7 duel at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez winning streak continues as he defeated British boxer Amir Khan via knock-out in their May 7 bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The winner is reportedly set to face undefeated boxer Gennady Golovkin next.

Now on a five fight winning streak, Alvarez is starting to build a huge fan base as his fight against Khan garnered as much as $600K which was not expected at all, Boxing News 24 reported. Moreover, those numbers surpassed the numbers of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto and Manny Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley.

Alvarez is even moving closer to boxing supremacy as he is now pitted against another superstar in Golovkin. However, Golden Boy Promotions, the promotion that represents Alvarez, is said to be avoiding a potential match against the two as their fighter, if knocked out, will surely affect the numbers of future PPVs.

Golovkin is one of the most lethal punchers in the sport today. In his 34 fights as a professional, he was able to knock out 31 opponents. The publication further stated that Alvarez' PPV numbers can only go as high unless he fights the best in his division including the Kazakh boxer.

Meanwhile, things are not looking good for his opponent Khan as the possibility of retirement was thrown at the table right after his defeat. Khan will be flying home to UK with his mom and he expects her to convince him to hang up his gloves.

"I'm flying home with her and she is going to do my head in the whole way, saying I should retire," Khan told TelegraphIt is never too late for Khan, as he is only 29 years of age and he definitely still have plenty of fight inside him.

This time though, he has to be more careful on his chosen opponent and the number one contender apparently is Kell Brook. Khan, upon hearing the suggestion, is not too enticed with the idea as he does not see the American boxer as someone who can pull interest and help him regain his leverage in his division.

Here is Golovkin's response to a potential fight against Alvarez.
