Who will take over Ragnar's throne in "Vikings" season 4?

While the release date of “Vikings” Season 4 episode 11 has yet to be confirmed, multiple reports already hinted that the second half of the hit History channel series will air sometime in July. More specifically, sources indicate that it will be released the first Thursday after the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 finale. It was also revealed that Season 4B will focus more on Ragnar's sons storyline.

According to Den of Geek, there is a strong possibility that "Vikings" Season 4 episode 11 will premiere in July. While this remains nothing but speculation, several publications had the same theory, so a July air date may just end up being true.

History channel has also renewed "Vikings" for Season 5 early this year. With the show's growing fan base, this is actually not surprising. Not to mention lead star Travis Fimmel, who plays Ragnar, is also set to star on the upcoming "Warcraft" movie. Clearly, this will be a great promotion for the series.

Apart from the early renewal, the network also decided to double their episode order for "Vikings" Season 4. While Seasons 1, 2, 3 only had ten episodes each, the fourth season is expected to have 20 episodes, which is four more than History's original order of sixteen.

Meanwhile, in an interview with TV Guide, "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst explained that the story of Ragnar's sons will take up a huge chunk of Season 4B. He explained that when the series returns, his sons, Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen), Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Hvitserk (Marco Ilso) and Sigurd (David Lindstrom), now fully grown men, will be the center of the story.

Hirst shared that if there is one son that we should all look forward to seeing, it will be Ivar. The show creator explained that, historically, Ragnar has always feared that his sons will end up becoming more famous than he was, which is clearly the case for Ivar.

"Ivar the Boneless is probably the most famous of all vikings. He's a cripple, and yet he becomes this dominant, extraordinary alpha-male," Hirst explained.
