"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 ended on Friday night with the surprising cameo of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert.

However, loyal viewers of the hit The CW series drew in a slew of mixed reactions after seeing the actress on the show.

Some fans noted that Dobrev didn't necessarily live up to her desire of leaving the franchise to pursue other opportunities. To add to this, some fans also expected Dobrev to only return during the finale episode of the show.

While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec said that Dobrev's brief return to the show was something that they thought of very carefully. When she pitched the idea to the actress, Dobrev was more than willing to accept the offer. She also decided to go to the studio itself to record her scene.

Unfortunately, some fans think that Dobrev's return could somehow belittle the impact of her would-be visit to Mystic Falls when "The Vampire Diaries" decides to wrap up its multiple seasons.

One fan @Julie wrote, "Worst finale in TVD history. Awful."

Another fan @Tam4423 wrote, "I don't even know what to say about this episode. I can't say whether I liked it or hated it. I guess I'm just indifferent... What happened to Damon and Enzo was not exactly shocking. Okay, he heard Elena's voice and got lured in. Common sense should have told him that was going to happen and it wasn't her at all."

Meanwhile, there are also some happens who were very much pleased with the producers' decision to invite Dobrev back even just for a very small part.

One fan @Tess wrote, "I'm super happy for Nina and respect the deal between her and Julie. As long as we all get some closure, what more can we ask? I have never been hooked on a show like this before and I'll be 50 on the 21st."

Another fan @Lizzy wrote, "BEST moment in of the episode!! Loved it!! Delena is alive. Wow, Damon's love is so strong, it overrides all fear. He just HAD to check and be sure. Powerful stuff. Epic love."

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
