Tourists checking in at China’s capital city are advised to avoid an unnamed Beijing hotel near the West Railway Station. The tea cups in the hotel are cleaned in an unsanitary way, a horrified hotel guest discovered on Wednesday during a business trip.
The South China Morning Post reported that the guest, Guan, dropped his luggage in his assigned room which was still being cleaned when he found the cleaner scrubbing the toilet bowl. Then the guest saw the employee place the toilet bowl brush in the wash basin where there were two sets of tea cups soaked in blue liquid.
Guan noticed a bottle of toilet detergent beside the basin, so he asked the cleaner why did she use the toilet brush on the tea cups. However, the cleaner only kept quiet.
When Guan informed the receptionist of his discovery, he was told the employee would rinse the cups. The disgusted guest posted his observation on social media which led to the firing of the cleaner, who was hired in February, and the housekeeping manager for not providing correct supervision.
The manager explained that the cleaner used the toilet detergent because the tea stains on the cups were not washed off using ordinary detergent.
In April 2015, video footage shown on Hangzhou TV showed that the guest bath towels were also used to clean the floor, toilet and sink by hotel cleaners. The erring hotel was identified as the Home Inn near West Lake. The unsanitary practices appear to be done in budget hotels.
