WWE Rumors: Extreme Rules results trigger Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns vs Dean Ambrose title fight at Summerslam

The Shield

Seth Rollins' return at Extreme Rules set the wheels in motion for a much-anticipated triple-threat match with reigning WWE World Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and another fellow ex-Shield member Dean Ambrose at Summerslam.

Just when everybody thought they were treated with a nice pay-per-view run in Newark, Rollins' surprising comeback at the end of the show took to the show to another level.

Reigns may have been successful in fending off AJ Styles for the second straight time in a very brutal affair Sunday night. But he never saw what's coming at him as Rollins crashed the party and hit the emphatic pedigree.

Rollins might still be a Heel but the warm reception he received last night only suggests the WWE universe have already grown tired of seeing Reigns as the champ just three months into his reign. Rollins' reemergence and Ambrose' hot run could create a compelling storyline leading up to the biggest event this Summer - Summerslam.

Triple-Threat Match

A triple-threat title match that features all former Shield members has become more and more inevitable upon Rollins' return. While Reigns has been busy thwarting the Club lead by A.J Styles the past four weeks, Rollins and Ambrose have also achieved something within that span.

Rollins, who suffered a knee injury in November, blew everybody's expectation after beating the timetable for his full recovery - a feat that impressed John Cena. Ambrose, on the other hand, is thriving in his rivalry with Chris Jericho that eventually culminated to a victory over Y2J in the first ever Asylum match at Extreme Rules.

Many wrestling pundits believe Ambrose' win over Jericho has catapulted him back to the title scene, though he's not expected to push for it just yet to give way for Rollins-Reigns rivalry at least in the next two PPV, Money in the Bank and Battleground.

Circle the date August 21, 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York because this year's Summerslam is going to be a blast.
